Gritty, bloody and altogether emotionally charged. I loved the feel of Ben Langdon's writing, the way he described his scenes and I especially loved how he made the characters beliavable and multidimensional. The story takes you through a kid's journey in dealing with supreme powers in a very bad situation. This account is actually something that you could see happen if super powers existed.

The plot could be better developed, though, more complete and fulfilling, but this book is all in all a very fun read, especially if you like comic books.

The Miranda Contract edition by Ben Langdon Children eBooks Reviews

enjoyable, fast-paced, not overloaded with details but still with enough depth to make the people and plates feel real, I will be looking for books by this author
Although this book had some parts that felt like they were from other stories, it made it more believable. Super heroes, bad guys and love story told in a science fiction way.
From the very start "The Miranda Contract" caught my attention with an intriguing plot, a fast-pace and engaging characters. The novel is well-written with vibrant storytelling, strong dialogue and a plot that keeps you guessing again and again. Ben Langdon has a talent for writing that is clear from the start, sucking you into Dan and Miranda's dangerous adventure as they both get caught up in the web of supervillainy, societal expectations and trying to figure out what they actually want from life. The story has a clear aim to entertain and delight while actually having an insightful underlying concept of growing up and deciding who you want to be. Mr. Langdon skillfully crafts a web of action, mystery, intrigue, danger and human emotion that certainly impressed and made for a very enjoyable read.
Nothing interesting is allowed to happen anywhere but the United States. Ever. At first I raged cuz 'Merica, then I just pretended the whole thing was set in Chicago and really enjoyed myself.

Powers were pretty cool, characters were mostly interesting, book was worth reading.
I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. It's not quite like most of the superhero books that I have read - although there are major events that take place in the book, it had a very narrow focus on the main characters - almost personal, if you will. It isn't an epic, it isn't Epic, it doesn't try to be, and it shouldn't.

The world isn't fully explained - and that's great. No long and painful origin stories. We don't know where superheroes and villains come from, although there are hints that they were around for a long time. The main superhero team makes a cameo appearance in the beginning of the book, but are thankfully inconspicuous by their absence. It's really just about the main character, his villainous grandfather (more of a father figure) who tries to make his grandson into himself, and the girl who gives him a reason to overcome his traumas in the past and the traumas that he faces in the book.

It's not perfect. I didn't think that the main character and the girl had a tremendous amount of chemistry, but there were enough sparks to make it believable.

On the other hand, the main character is believable, his personality fits, and his reactions - or lack of reactions - to what he goes through are reasonable. I would have rather he be a bit more decisive, but as much of the book is about his journey to become more of a doer and less of a happen-toer, it works.
I'm a big fan of a well done super hero novel. But I couldn't, for the life of me, get into this book at all. I can't even quite pinpoint why I disliked it, I suppose the characters were either ridiculously clichéd or obnoxiously different (and sometimes both). I regret reading this book but maybe it's just me
This was a good superhero read.
There was plenty of 'superhero vs villain' butt-kicking action going on! Add to that a reluctant romance, which of course we knew would happen from chapter one! Toss in some awkward family relations and you have a hero worth cheering for!
The world building of this story was done with skill and an eye for future books. It is a world/story that I would like to re-visit.
I recommend this book to readers of the Action and Science Fiction - Superheroes genres.
